Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego presents her first state of the city address on June 13, 2019.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego gave her first state of the city address on Thursday, highlighting many of the main achievements she has made in her first few months in office, and speaking out on issues ranging from affordable housing and homelessness, to the challenges police face on the front lines of the behavioral health response.

She spent much of her speech defending light rail, which has become increasingly controversial as opponents claim it will hurt businesses and benefit few. Voters will, once again, determine the future of light rail in August.

The Show spoke with the mayor at Phoenix City Hall just after her speech and asked her what she has done in her first 12 weeks in office to set the tone for the rest of her tenure.
