As a retired fighter pilot, U.S. Sen. Martha McSally said she sees affordable housing as a serious problem among veterans and pinned her hopes of helping Arizona's homeless on President Trump's plans.

On her recent visit to the U.S. Veterans Center in Phoenix, McSally lauded the president's newly signed executive order establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing.

Speaking at the Valley V.A. Center and at a round table for veterans finding work, she stressed the lack of housing as a primary cause for homelessness among vets and other Arizonans.

She spoke the same words she gave while standing in support of the president as he recently signed the order.

"When I took my 15 county tour in the first 90 days, there were a number of issues that popped, but affordable housing is one that was consistent whether in rural or suburban, or urban areas," she said. "So, we need to remove barriers for sure."
