Extreme heat will continue for the Phoenix metro region this weekend.

James Sawtelle with the National Weather Service in Phoenix said areas in higher elevations throughout the state could experience rain.

“We will have a slight increase in moisture. We will see a chance of some isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the high terrain areas," Sawtelle said. 

Sawtelle said temperatures will be several degrees above normal as there is an excessive heat warning and air quality alert for the Phoenix metro region.
