Hurricane Dorian made landfall Sunday in the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm.

The Phoenix Fire Department deployed a disaster task force to Florida on Friday to help prepare. Now, Arizona Red Cross volunteers are also on their way.

The Red Cross’ Greater Phoenix Chapter is sending a mobile feeding truck to help hurricane victims. Spokesman James Gilloon said the truck provides hot meals and sandwiches with the help of donations from community partners.

“The feeding truck will be going around to areas and communities that have been devastated by the winds or the flooding," he said. "So we’d make sure we go out there and take care of the community by feeding them.”

If the hurricane makes a worst-case-scenario landfall in Florida, experts estimate up to 50,000 people may need emergency shelters.
