Phoenix is in the early stages of a water pipe installation project near state Route 51. The project, which is scheduled to start in 2021, will ensure water access to some north Phoenix communities.

Troy Hayes, assistant water services director with the city of Phoenix, said the city plans to install a pipeline from the 24th Street water treatment plant up to the area around 32nd Street and Bell Road.

"One of the analysis that we’ve done is analyzing drought and drought conditions if they continue is that we don’t have enough resources in the north to be able to sustain a prolonged drought on the Colorado River side," he said.

The city has not yet finalized the pipeline’s alignment or route and is considering alternative alignments after hearing from residents who live near the area.

The pipeline project could impact access to Dreamy Draw Park.
