New data from the Arizona Department of Health Services shows fewer children entered childcare and kindergarten in the 2014-2015 school year with a non-medical vaccination exemption.

Before this year, the state had seen growing rates of personal belief exemptions.

Jessica Rigler, a spokesperson with the agency, said it’s hard to say why the decrease occurred. She said these numbers were collected in November, more than a month before January’s measles outbreak in Disneyland.

"The Disneyland scare certainly wouldn’t have impacted these numbers at all," said Rigler. "However we’ll be interested to see if next year’s vaccine coverage rates continue to climb as more parents are getting their children vaccinated."

Rigler added there was a 30 percent jump in the measles, mumps and rubella vaccination immediately following the scare compared to the same time last year.
