Mosquito fogging has been scheduled in the Phoenix metro. The summer’s first confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Maricopa County were announced on Tuesday.

The virus, which is carried by the Culex mosquito, has provoked more calls for fogging in Valley neighborhoods.

Johnny Diloné with Maricopa County Environmental Services said their 750 mosquito traps test for three things that prompt fogging.

“The trap tests positive for West Nile. Or, if it comes back with 30 or more of the Culex type of mosquito. Or, if has 300-plus of any combination of mosquito species,”  Diloné said.

Diloné said the recent round of fogging is acting as a preventive measure to kill the mosquitos that could potentially carry the West Nile Virus.
