The El Niño weather pattern is continuing to strengthen. Meteorologists in Arizona said the warming waters in the Pacific Ocean will likely result in more hurricane activity as the fall season sets in.

Ken Waters, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, said later on in the year it will likely bring in more moisture from the Pacific and change the route it typically travels into the Valley.

"Instead of having more typical winter storms dropping down the Pacific coast from the north, we can have more of a direct hit of storms coming across Southern California," Waters said.

Forecasts indicate this El Niño pattern will likely be strong in nature. According to the National Weather Service, there have only been three strong El Niño seasons since the agency started tracking them.
