Arizona’s wildfire season was relatively light with limited destruction and damage. But northern California and Washington state have been hit hard.

Fires in eastern Washington alone burned nearly 1 million acres.

Northern Arizona University professor Pete Fule of the School of Forestry co-authored a paper called Reform Forest Fire Management. It argues that using more prescribed or managed burns could help limit catastrophic wildfires in the future.
