Six senior-level deans have recently resigned from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. Now the Arizona Medical Association (ArMA) has approved a vote of “no-confidence” in the school’s administration.

That's not just because of the resignations, though ArMA has asked the Arizona Board of Regents to investigate those. ArMA spokeswoman Sharla Hooper said the group is also concerned about the school’s accreditation process and the deans' authority. 

"Our house of delegates felt that it was important that make a serious statement that would be taken with the gravity that the situation warrants," she said.

But UA spokesman Chris Sigurdson said, from the where the school sits, the half-dozen departures don’t seem unusual.    

"The former dean at the college has invited four of his colleagues to join him at his new job. Another person’s been promoted," he said. "And we have a lot of great people at the College of Medicine - Phoenix, and they are highly recruited." 

Sigurdson also said he was surprised by ArMA’s actions because he said the group has not contacted the school about its resignations.
