Jodi Arias’s effort to get a potential death sentence in her murder case set aside was rejected by the state’s highest court today. 

Arias has been charged with the June 2008 stabbing and shooting death of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, at his home in Mesa.

Arias claims it was self-defense. Prosecutors say she planned the murder ahead of time.

Her attorneys have previously argued the lead detective on the case perjured himself, and tried for a mistrial or stay of the death penalty in the lower court last month.

Today, attorneys for Arias filed a motion with the Arizona Supreme Court to get the death penalty off the table -- but the court quickly rejected the request.

The trial is set to resume Monday.
