Phoenix city council members approve spending $70,000 on a feasibility study for a Latino Cultural Center.

Phoenix city leaders are taking their first step towards creating a Latino Cultural Center. On Wednesday, council members approved spending $70,000 for a consultant to conduct a capital needs assessment and feasibility study for a center that would “promote knowledge and appreciation of the cultures of Latinos.”

According to a city document, more than $1 million is available through Phoenix’s bond program this fiscal year and $302,000 in fiscal year 2020-21 to showcase the community through a capital project like a Latino Cultural Center.

The contract, awarded to Evonne Gallardo Arts and Culture Management, will last one year and could be extended. A business plan and evaluation of potential tie-ins with other resources will be included in the study.
