If you’re heading out to see the snow this weekend, but admit it’s been a while since you’ve driven in snow, here are a few tips to help you navigate.

North on Intestate 17, forecasts are showing temperatures dropping near the freezing point as you drive past the Prescott exit. The same goes north on the Beeline Highway approaching Payson.

Wherever roads look wet, Ryan Harding with the Arizona Department of Transportation said pay close attention.

“Be careful and be aware of black ice when you’re crossing over a bridge, ice will form first before it forms on the roadway," Harding said. "So, slow down and adjust your speed for the conditions.”

And, if you are caught off guard, he said don’t panic. “Yeah, don’t slam on your brakes, just ease your foot off the gas and steer into the skid and that will help you regain control.”
