Fewer than 5,000 cases of the flu have been reported this season, which began in October. That number is less than half the number of cases reported at this same time last year.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is still classifying the flu as widespread in the state.

March is considered part of the peak flu season, so more cases could still occur.

Health officials said the best way to protect yourself from the flu is by getting the vaccine and hand washing.
