Arizona Rep. Rivero: Immigrants Play Role In Economy

With the Trump administration stepping up immigration enforcement and the divisive rhetoric surrounding immigrants in our country, politicians are speaking out on both sides of the issue.

But, not everyone is toeing the party line.

Arizona state Rep. Tony Rivero is a conservative Republican who represents Peoria and some of Sun City. He says he felt compelled to speak out in favor of immigrants.

It may not be a popular position to take in the Republican party today, but last week, he wrote an opinion piece in the Arizona Capitol Times arguing that immigrants — documented or not — play a fundamental role in our state’s economy.

So, I went to Rivero’s office to talk to him about this and asked what spurred him to write the op-ed.
