Carvana is based in Tempe.

In 2012, Carvana was founded in Phoenix. The online used-car dealer first launched its service in Atlanta and has spread to more than 30 cities, most recently metro Phoenix.

“This is our home market,” said Ryan Keeton, co-founder and chief brand officer. “It’s kind of like a homecoming.”

He works with nearly 500 employees at company headquarters in Tempe. Until now, people in Arizona could use the online service, but they didn’t get the full experience.

“Instead of a Carvana employee showing up in a branded vehicle with your car, it would be utilizing a third-party transport company bringing that car to you,” Keeton explained.

Carvana’s business model allows customer to search, finance and buy used vehicles online with delivery at no additional cost as soon as the next day in 33 markets.

The company is also planning on building a car vending machine in Tempe for customers who want to pick up their cars. Vehicles will be stored in a glass structure and when a customer inserts a coin, the car makes it way down to a delivery bay. The vending machines are already used in five markets.
