Arizona Sen. John McCain may be good friends with the author of the GOP’s latest repeal and replace proposal for Obamacare, but he said he is more concerned about its direct impact on our state.

Both Arizona senators said they are optimistic after taking a first look at Sens. Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy’s new plan to convert Affordable Care Act spending into block grants.

Sen. Jeff Flake said he could get behind it, as did McCain.

“I am supportive of it, but, I want our governor and Legislature to be in favor. This is a direct impact on them," McCain said Wednesday.

McCain also said he wants the proposal to go through the traditional vetting process in the Senate for bi-partisan support.

He is considered a key vote for the GOP to lock in the latest repeal effort.

In July, he was one of three Republicans who went against the GOP’s second attempt at repealing and replacing the Obamacare health program.
