Phoenix set another record high on Tuesday hitting 99 degrees at Sky Harbor International Airport by mid-afternoon.

The previous record for that date was 96 degrees set back in 2014.

Meteorologist Bianca Hernandez with the National Weather Service said blame it on a high pressure system sitting over the Southwest.

That system is moving on, and forecasters said it should be the last swipe at triple-digit highs this season.

"There is relief in sight, but it will happen at the latter part of the week," Hernandez said. "So, we're looking at a gradual decrease in temperatures starting on Wednesday, and then gradual cooling through Monday."

The forecasted high for Wednesday is 93 degrees and Thursday is 92 degrees, about eight degrees above normal.

Temperature highs are expected to stay in the 80's by the weekend.
