Phoenix’s Housing Department is getting a $100,000 grant for a new bike-sharing program in the Edison-Eastlake Community east of downtown.

The Grid for All program will make it easier and more affordable for residents to to get around the city. According to Bernice Felix-Baca, the housing manager for Choice Neighborhood Initiatives, it’ll also be a way to promote exercise within the community.

“One of the main things in this neighborhood is that not a lot of people have cars. So a lot of people either use public transportation, they walk or they get rides. And so we’re seeing this as another opportunity for them to have an additional transit option,” Felix-Baca said.

Felix-Baca said they are currently working on two stations but plan to add more.
