The city of Phoenix released a draft of its non-discrimination and anti-sexual harassment policy. The proposed policy still requires the City Council’s approval.

In a statement, Councilwoman Kate Gallego calls the policy a "common-sense approach that follows best practices adopted in many other cities."

The draft policy reads, in part, that Phoenix elected officials, board members and volunteers must not by words or conduct manifest bias or prejudice or engage in harassment or discrimination against any person.

It goes on to state that those same individuals must not retaliate against a person who makes a complaint. The policy details steps to take if a complaint is filed and possible sanctions. A spokesperson says the proposal will be discussed Wednesday.
