It looks like Arizona is preparing a bid to land the Super Bowl in five years. Both Phoenix and Glendale city councils have unanimously approved resolutions to support Arizona’s bid to host the Super Bowl in 2023.

When Arizona last hosted in 2015, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers questioned the local cost, especially to police and fire. If the NFL awards Arizona the 2023 game, state troopers, not Glendale police, will be responsible for security inside the University of Phoenix Stadium and on the parking lots controlled by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority during events.

Glendale’s resolution also specifies the management group for the University of Phoenix Stadium is responsible for medical services in the stadium and on the parking lots while the Glendale Fire Department is responsible for fire and emergency medical services throughout the city’s jurisdiction.

Phoenix said it will provide public safety for NFL events and the use of certain city-controlled venues for NFL and Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee events at no cost.

Both cities agree to offer various services at no charge, including marketing, permitting, transportation and traffic coordination.

An analysis by the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University found the last Super Bowl and Pro Bowl held in Arizona created an economic impact of $720 million.
