After recently scoring Super Bowl 57 in 2023, Phoenix and Glendale are getting another major sports championship in 2024.

University of Phoenix Stadium has landed the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and National Championship. It will be the second time the stadium has hosted the festivities after hosting them in 2017.

Dan Gavitt is the NCAA senior vice president of men’s basketball. He said part of the reason the organization chose to return to Arizona is because of the success of the 2017 event.

“It was very much of a fan favorite place in April with the weather," Gavitt said. "The facility’s outstanding. So the committee thought it was time to go back after their very successful past hosts.”

Debbie Johnson is the director of the Arizona Office of Tourism and is on the Phoenix Local Organizing Committee for the Final Four that made the pitch to the NCAA.

“Our communities came together," Johnson said. "We embraced the Final Four, and we wanted the opportunity again. But we also knew that we had stiff competition with the other destinations so we certainly didn’t take anything for granted.”

According to a study from the W.P. Carey School of Business, the 2017 Final Four generated an estimated $324.5 million for the Valley economy and brought in almost 60,000 visitors for the weekend.

Houston, San Antonio and Indianapolis join Phoenix as cities selected Monday to host Final Fours from 2023 to 2026.
