A new bill in Congress aims to start working to clear the maintenance backlog at national parks; that backlog is currently estimated to be around $12 billion.

The bill, introduced by House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop of Utah is also supported by the panel’s ranking Democrat, Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona. It would allocate royalties from resource extraction on public lands toward making the needed repairs at the parks.
