Some police officers working in the Phoenix area have a new place to work. 

HonorHealth has created community police beat offices at its Osborn and John C. Lincoln medical centers. 

“This allows the officers to really stay out in the public and they can complete their investigation and write their report and do all of that while they’re out in the community,” said Todd Larson, associate vice president for workplace and public safety at the HonorHealth Network. 

Larson previously worked with the Scottsdale Police Department for 22 years. 

He said officers working in the hospital will have another opportunity to connect with the people they serve. 

“If you don’t have connection and roots and collaboration with the community, you’re never going to clear those cases,” Larson said.

HonorHealth is not charging the officers to use the space, and officers can come and go as it’s convenient. Larson noted they are often at the hospital to follow up on car accidents and other cases.

The Phoenix Police Department maintains similar beat offices in local businesses and fire stations. 

“Patrol officers are primarily tasked with being visible during patrols, remaining proactive in enforcement and engaging with the community through in-person contacts wherever possible,” said Sergeant Vince Lewis in an email.

The next HonorHealth community office is expected to open at Shea Medical Center.
