In a situation that some observers are connecting to this year’s repeal of net neutrality rules by the Federal Communications Commission, Verizon and the Santa Clara County Fire Department are in dispute.

The fire department claims Verizon throttled its use of unlimited data service — essentially slowing down its Internet connection to the point where it was almost unusable.

Santa Clara County’s Fire Chief wrote that the throttling “has had a significant impact on our ability to provide emergency services.”

Jon Brodkin, reporter for Ars Technica, has written extensively about the situation and came on The Show to talk about it.
