Any electric scooters found on Arizona State University property will be impounded, carrying a $100 fee per scooter.

Electric scooters, motorized bikes, hover boards and other similar devices have been banned on campus since the 1960s, but the recent success of companies like Bird and Lime, which rent scooters to people through an app, lead the university to "remind" the companies of ASU's policy.

In an email, a Bird spokesperson said, "if any scooters are impounded on campus, Bird will partner with University officials to investigate each incident and take necessary action."

Bird requires riders to take a photo of their scooter after each ride. In an email ASU spokesman Gerardo Gonzalez said he understands scooters are a convenient form of transport for students, so the university set up designated parking spots on the edge of campus.
