What Mattis' Departure From The Defense Department Means For The Trump Administration
General James Mattis handed in his resignation to President Donald Trump on Thursday, not long after he and other Defense Department leaders learned — via a tweet — that the President was declaring victory over ISIS in Syria and all U.S. troops were coming home.
We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 19, 2018
In heading the Defense Department, Mattis had been considered one of the steadier hands as it relates to U.S. foreign policy and assuring allies that the U.S. wouldn’t take any rash actions.
To talk about Mattis and what could be next, Daniel Rothenberg, co-director of the Center on the Future of War at ASU, joined The Show.
