One of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in Arizona history is the case of the so-called "Hatbox Baby."

The "Hatbox Baby" was Sharon Elliott, who was abandoned in the desert in 1931. Elliott died in 2018.

Arizona Republic senior reporter John D’Anna has been working on this story for three decades. On Sunday, the paper will publish a 10-chapter series on the case with new developments.

Bonnie Belza has been helping with that work. She’s retired from the financial services industry and is now an amateur genealogist.

D’Anna and Belza recently came by our studios to talk about what their investigations have found, but we started with some of the backstory of the "Hatbox Baby."
