While water conservation is a hot topic in the legislature, one lawmaker has proposed a way to save on water — one flush at a time.

Arizona Rep. Bob Thorpe is proposing in a bill to switch all the urinals in men’s bathrooms in state buildings to waterless, no-flush units. The new urinals would be installed within two years of the bill's passage.

“My justification is, if we’re asking our farmers to cut back, then the state should really lead the way,” Thorpe said.

Thorpe said installing waterless urinals would help Arizona conserve millions of gallons of water.
