Arizona lawmakers want to give child sex abuse victims more time to sue their attackers.

The Senate bill would provide a seven-year window to bring a civil claim to court. And the clock would not start running until the victim turns 18, or the person first reports the abuse to a medical provider.

Democratic Sen. Lupe Contreras is behind the bill.

"It's just saying that, you know what, we're tired of the cover-up. We're tired of taking the voices of these young individuals. Because at the end of the day those individuals don't have the same life that any of us have had. They started out, we all had the equal life. But since that occurred their life is no longer the same," Contreras said.

At this point, the measure faces an uncertain future. It has yet to be assigned to a committee for a hearing.
