A "Clean Air Blue Skies" ADOT Licence Plate

The Arizona Department of Transportation has updated its list of vehicles eligible for the “Clean Air Blue Skies” license plates. While some vehicles have been added, many common ones have been removed.

The plate with a light blue background and fluffy clouds represents the Energy Efficient Plate Program. Entering 2015, ADOT updated the list of program qualifying vehicles to include new models of electric vehicles, such as the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius Plug-In.

Beginning in 2007, ADOT created 10,000 plates to encourage more hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles to meet state emission standards by allowing single occupancy drivers to use the HOV lane.

However, vehicles like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid which once qualified are no longer eligible for the plate. The move is to encourage more efficient models.

There are still about 600 plates available.
