The first excessive heat warning of the year will hit this week.

Meteorologist Sean Benedict with the National Weather Service predicted the high temperatures would begin ramping up Monday across the state, particularly in the Valley.

"We're looking at upper 100s, close to right around 108 here in Phoenix," Benedict warned. "Tuesday, we're looking at about 109, maybe getting close to 110, and we're expecting the hottest to be on Wednesday. We've got a forecast in for 111."

Benedict advised limiting time outside for you and your pets, and check on those who are especially vulnerable in the extreme heat. There is also a high ozone warning in place beginning Monday.

The high temperatures should ease up a little by Friday.
