Arizona's Unemployment Numbers Above National Rate

Arizona’s unemployment numbers for January are unchanged from the month before, yet those numbers are still above the national rate.

Arizona’s unemployment rate for January was 6.6 percent, according to the state department of administration. That’s almost a full percentage point above the national average.

Across the state, more than 43,000 jobs were lost after the new year as employers whittled down its seasonal workers. Private sector employers lost roughly 31,000 jobs, with the trade, transportation and utilities sector accounting for a little more than 18,000 lost jobs.
