Construction on a stretch of State Route 87 will cause delays near Sunflower.

If you’re heading north toward Payson this weekend, plan for an extra-long trip up State Route 87.

Road crews will be diverting traffic to one side of the highway just north of Sunflower. The Arizona Department of Transportation said north and southbound traffic should be prepared for up to a 30-minute delay.

The construction is part of a $6 million safety-improvement project that began in October.

The project is scheduled to be completed in time for Memorial Day weekend.
