The addiction crisis fueled by heroin and its stronger, synthetic analogue, fentanyl, has been well documented. Now, a Prescott representative is sponsoring a bill that would impose stricter sentences on people found guilty of trafficking or selling either of the two opioids.

Rep. Steve Pierce was motivated by a plea from the editors of the Prescott Daily Courier to do something about the problems plaguing their community.

The bill passed through its committee by a party line vote this week, but it’s meeting resistance on the House floor from both sides of the aisle due to its strict sentencing guidelines.

The Show spoke with Pierce about HB 2036.
