Lots of managers want their employees to get along. Anyone who has ever been forced to go to a staff retreat or an awkward bowling night can relate to that. But, what if being friends with your co-workers can actually make you better at your job?

New research published in last month’s Journal of Marketing suggests that is exactly the case, specifically for people in positions known as “relationship managers.” Gabe Gonzalez is a marketing professor at the Thunderbird School of Global Management and one of the authors.
