Slightly more Arizonans are expected to travel over the Labor Day weekend this year than last.

According to AAA Arizona, about 668,000 Arizonans will travel over the long weekend, that’s a 1.3 percent increase from last year. The group is expecting a similar increase nationally. Of those travelers, the vast majority, about 83 percent, will drive. That’s an increase of almost 1.5 percent from last year.

With the Labor Day travelers, AAA said nearly 2.2 million Arizonans will have traveled over the three summer holidays. That’s a 1 percent increase from last year.

In advance of Labor Day, the agency reports the state’s gas prices dropped 2.5 cents this week, a gallon of regular unleaded averages $3.46.
