Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation Tuesday giving Arizona's ex-convicts with felony records a chance to work again.

House Bill 2196 removes barriers to work at adult substance abuse treatment and re-entry facilities.

Ex-Convicts will serve as peer coaches for those suffering from addiction.

On his website, Ducey said, "All Arizonans deserve the opportunity to find a job and make a better life for themselves."

He continued, "For individuals who have served their time, this can be especially challenging. That’s why we’ve focused on building a support system for those leaving prison and reducing barriers to employment. This bill is an important step toward those goals and I’m proud to sign it into law.”

Before it reached his desk, the bill passed the legislature with unanimous support.
