The Maricopa County Air Quality Department has a new director.

Phillip McNeely takes over the job from Bill Wiley, who was reassigned earlier this summer to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.

Prior to this new job, McNeely was the manager of Phoenix’s Office of Environmental Programs since 2008 and was a division director at the state Department of Environmental Quality. He’ll officially take over the county’s air quality department on Oct. 13.

The agency is responsible for, among other things, monitoring dust and particulate levels and issuing No Burn Days, which it often does around the winter holidays.
