Pecan harvest season typically lasts from November through January.

Arizona farmers are looking for any way to increase profits and that means more growers are cracking into the pecan market.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts a record year for Arizona’s pecan production in 2017.

The survey shows growers will produce 28 million pounds of pecans this year.

Right now the nuts are still on the trees, and will be harvested in the winter months.

This is the second record year in a row for the state’s pecan growers.

Growers had predicted 2017 would be another good year because of how the pecan tree cycles work. This year, most of the state's trees were bearing fruit. The trees alternate between making more pecans one year and less the next.

There were about 14,300 acres of bearing trees in Arizona this year, up slightly from the last count in 2012, which was around 13,700 acres.
