The new year means new driving laws in Arizona.

Arizona SB 1080 is one new law that is specifically aimed at newly licensed teenage drivers who will be barred, beginning in July of this year, from using cell phones behind the wheel for the first six months of driving.

The bipartisan bill was actually passed and signed into law in April 2017 and at that time, Gov. Doug Ducey said he was "in favor of a law that goes further, banning texting while driving for all minors.”

The law applies to teenagers within the first 6 months of driving after they get their license, or until they reach the age of 18. It also applies to teens driving under a learner’s permit.
