The Phoenix Police Department is investigating Tempe City Councilman Kolby Granville following allegations he provided alcohol to former students under 21 years old.

The city of Tempe requested Phoenix police look into the allegations to avoid a conflict.

Granville was fired from teaching at a Tempe charter school in December after former students alleged he made unwanted sexual advances and provided alcohol to them when they were under 21 years old.

If Granville was convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, he would automatically forfeit his seat on the City Council.

Moral turpitude is a legal phrase that means a person violates community standards.

Tempe will decide whether to do its own code of conduct investigation after reviewing the findings from the Phoenix police.

Phoenix police confirmed via email they are investigating the case but were not able to answer further questions.
