Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is once again ripping the Trump administration’s immigration policy after a deadline passed for some families to be reunited.

The senator said he’s not surprised that less than a third of children younger than 5 that were supposed to be reunited by Tuesday’s court-mandated deadline actually did.

“It speaks to how haphazard and cruel this policy was to start with," Flake said. "We can go now more than two weeks after the order came and we still can’t put these families together.”

Flake said it’s a “cruel policy” because the administration isn’t keeping better track of the separated families.

“I don’t understand how you can’t keep better records than that. It does not speak well for the programs over there," Flake said.

A federal judge ordered a report documenting the remaining separated young children by Thursday.
