The Show regularly checks in with Editorial Board of the Arizona Republic to talk about the big issues facing the state and the region — featured in the newspaper’s Viewpoints section.

Over the weekend, possibly the greatest tennis player of all time — male or female — lost in the U.S. Open women’s final. That legendary athlete, Serena Williams, got most of the attention in the match not because she lost, but because of how she lost.

She was struggling against her opponent on the court, but she was also penalized multiple times by an umpire — including having a game taken away from her.

That has led to a conversation about whether Williams was treated differently than an equally great male player would have been.

Arizona Republic editorial director Phil Boas joined The Show his weekly appearance to talk about it.
