Utility company SRP held a meeting Monday that turned into a bitterly divided debate about renewable energy.

Even though the company would not be directly affected by the ballot initiative known as Clean Energy for a Healthy Arizona, a board meeting was held to discuss a donation to a group opposed to the initiative, revealing deep cracks in how the company envisions forming state energy policy well into the future.

The ballot measure would require the Arizona’s public utilities to get half of their power from renewable resources, including solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower by 2030.

Ryan Randazzo, business reporter for the Arizona Republic, was at the meeting.
