An Arizona lawmaker — who was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving — said he’s learned a valuable lesson.

State Rep. David Cook, a Republican from Globe, was pulled over in Mesa on Wednesday evening after an officer saw him drifting between lanes. 

Cook took to Facebook to address his DUI. In the online post, he called it a "humiliating" experience and said the "good Lord was looking out for me" since there was no accident.

He attributed the incident to not eating enough that day and then going out for what seemed like "harmless" drinks with friends.

Cook went on to discourage others from drinking and driving, but denied seeking special treatment from the arresting officer.

The police report described Cook as uncooperative and very intoxicated. He first handed the DPS trooper his legislative ID instead of his driver’s license and told another trooper “You’ll get yours.”

Cook was founded to have a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
