So, what do you get when a lot of people come to one place and spend a lot of time at big events in close proximity? If you’re in the health care field, you basically see an an incubator for disease.

Health officials around the Valley and state are preparing for the influx of visitors for the Super Bowl and Phoenix Open, among other events and we’ll bring you a few perspectives today, starting with Joan Ivaska, senior director of infection prevention at Banner Health, and Caryn Staib, Banner’s emergency management director.

We also talked to Doctor Bob England, the director of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

It’s not just health officials that are thinking about the influx of visitors, safety and security are also concerns.

Phoenix Police, the Department of Public Safety and state and federal homeland security are just a few of the many departments tasked with making all the events safe and successful. But how will they work together?

Bart Graves is the Media Relations Manager with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
