The Show presents a new monthly segment with longtime Phoenix writer Amy Silverman.

She has a new column out this month in Phoenix Magazine called "Raising Phoenix," where she explores Arizona politics, culture — and everything else that makes Phoenix the city that it is.

She began with a story about how she fell in love with this city — after a lifetime of hating it.

For many, Phoenix can be a difficult place to love, and a lot of us went through a stage where we hated it — particularly in high school. And so did Amy.

She writes in this piece: “I was born and raised in Arizona and never saw the place reflected back at me, not in a way I found meaningful.” We began our conversation there.
